Part 2: Accommodations, Dining & Shopping

Once your students arrive at their destination, the next challenge is interacting confidently in everyday situations, like checking into a hotel, ordering food, and making purchases. These are moments where English is absolutely essential.

1) At the Hotel

I have a reservation.

• Spanish: Tengo una reserva.
• Portuguese: Eu tenho uma reserva.

Can I check in?

• Spanish: ¿Puedo registrarme?
• Portuguese: Posso fazer o check-in?

What time is check-out?

• Spanish: ¿A qué hora es el check-out?
• Portuguese: A que horas é o check-out?

Is breakfast included?

• Spanish: ¿El desayuno está incluido?
• Portuguese: O café da manhã está incluído?

Do you have Wi-Fi?

• Spanish: ¿Tienen Wi-Fi?
• Portuguese: Vocês têm Wi-Fi?

What is the Wi-Fi password?

• Spanish: ¿Cuál es la contraseña del Wi-Fi?
• Portuguese: Qual é a senha do Wi-Fi?

The air conditioner isn’t working.

• Spanish: El aire acondicionado no funciona.
• Portuguese: O ar-condicionado não está funcionando.

Can I get an extra towel?

• Spanish: ¿Puedo tener toallas extra?
• Portuguese: Posso pegar toalhas extras?

I’d like to check out.

• Spanish: Me gustaría hacer el check-out.
• Portuguese: Gostaria de fazer o check-out.

2) At a Restaurant

A table for two, please.

• Spanish: Una mesa para dos, por favor.
• Portuguese: Uma mesa para dois, por favor.

Can I see the menu?

• Spanish: ¿Puedo ver el menú?
• Portuguese: Posso ver o cardápio?

What do you recommend?

• Spanish: ¿Qué recomienda?
• Portuguese: O que você recomenda?

I’ll have this.

• Spanish: Quiero esto.
• Portuguese: Vou querer isso.

I’m allergic to…

• Spanish: Soy alérgico/a a…
• Portuguese: Sou alérgico/a a…

Can I get this without…?

• Spanish: ¿Puedo pedir esto sin…?
• Portuguese: Posso pedir isso sem…?

Can we get some water?

• Spanish: ¿Nos puede traer agua?
• Portuguese: Pode trazer água para nós?

Can we have the bill, please?

3) Shopping

• Spanish: ¿Tiene esto en otra talla?
• Portuguese: Você tem isso em outro tamanho?

Can I try this on?

• Spanish: ¿Puedo probármelo?
• Portuguese: Posso experimentar?

Where is the fitting room?

• Spanish: ¿Dónde está el probador?
• Portuguese: Onde fica o provador?

Do you have a cheaper option?

• Spanish: ¿Tiene una opción más barata?
• Portuguese: Você tem uma opção mais barata?

I’ll take it.

• Spanish: Me lo llevo.
• Portuguese: Vou levar.

Can I pay by card?

• Spanish: ¿Puedo pagar con tarjeta?
• Portuguese: Posso pagar com cartão?

Can I have the receipt?

• Spanish: ¿Me da un recibo?
• Portuguese: Pode me dar um recibo?
